Mobile Skills Unit Update
March kicked off with the Mobile Skills Unit at Galloway Community Hospital in Stranraer where, AHPs, nursing staff and medics engaged in an intensive training programme. Sessions included caring for people with dementia, paediatric skills, diabetes management and advanced practice skills. The Stranraer fire service also refreshed their basic life support skills.
Next, the MSU travelled to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary where training included pre- hospital emergency care, advanced practice in mental health, deteriorating patient simulations and various other clinical skills. Paramedics attended SAS emergency care and drop in sessions. Dumfries & Galloway fire service attended fire safety sessions.
In the third week, the MSU was based at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital with sessions tailored to nurses, health care support workers and allied health professionals. Activities included palliative care, safe mobilisation, recognising a deteriorating patient and advanced nurse practitioner skills.
Later in March, the MSU visited both Ranfurly Care Home and Wyndford Locks Care Home. Nurses from care homes across Greater Glasgow and Clyde participated in sessions on male catheterisation, venepuncture, and escalation of deteriorating patients.
CSMEN were very excited to receive new stackable Little Annes and AED trainer kits which will be added to the MSU before the April visits. April is set to be another busy month with the MSU Faculty Development Course, the first visit to Auchtercraig Care Home in Aberdeenshire and a return to Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance at Helimed 79.
The Mobile Skills Unit is a versatile, multi-professional and multi-agency resource. To book the MSU for your region, check out the MSU availability on this calendar.
Simulation Research in Scotland Survey
In January CSMEN circulated the Simulation Research in Scotland Survey.
If you haven't already done so, please can you take some time to complete this? Creating a body of research in respect of simulation is an ongoing challenge and CSMEN will use the responses to scope how we can support with this work.
CSMEN Social Media
As of the end of March 2025 the NES Clinical Skills Managed Educational Network @CSMEN1 X account will no longer be active.
To stay informed of CSMEN activities you can follow the NHS Education for Scotland Facebook Page. CSMEN will soon have a dedicated Facebook group where you can continue to interact with us.
Thank you to everyone who has followed and engaged with our content.
