Mobile Skills Unit Update
At the start of June, the Mobile Skills Unit returned to it's base at the Scottish National Blood Transfusions Service depot in Glasgow, for kit inspections and cleaning. The unit is currently at Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert where the Scottish Centre for Simulation and Clinical Human Factors is delivering a fully booked MSU Faculty Development Course.
Next month the unit is supporting training across four Scottish Rugby sites; Murrayfield Stadium, Galashiels, Scotstoun Stadium and Kilmarnock RFC. Training will include SCRUMCAPS level 1 /2/3, pre-hospital pitch side care and BLS/ALS and AED.
Sustainable Simulation - Greening the Scene
How can we make our simulation work more sustainable?
Karen from CSMEN attended a workshop at the simulation centre at the Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh in early June. It was an excellent session and very thought provoking. Lots to discuss with colleagues and apply to our simulation work.
At the workshop we explored:
- How to work out the carbon footprint of a training session – what causes the most impact and how can we reduce that impact?
- LEGO Serious Play to build models of sustainable changes we might incorporate into our work and home lives.
Things to consider:
- Clinical waste – is what you are putting in the clinical waste bin really clinical waste?
- Travel to training – public transport, car share, online?
- Gloves – are they necessary for the procedure you are undertaking?
- Equipment – do you need to buy a new model? Could you borrow one? Could you fix one?
- Refreshments – bring your own cup or water bottle!
- Handouts – do you need to print them?
